How should I prepare before my Vitalize Peel?

  • Patient should avoid these products and/or procedures seven days before the peel:
Electrolysis, Depilatory Creams, Waxing, Laser Hair Removal
  • Patients who have had Botox injections should wait until the full effect of their treatment is seen before receiving a Skin Medica Peel.
  • Patients who have had any medical cosmetic facial treatments or procedures should wait until skin sensitivity completely resolves before receiving a Skin Medica Peel.
  • *The use of these products/treatments prior to your peel may increase skin sensitivity and cause a stronger reaction.

What to expect immediately after the peel and for up to 24 Hours:

  • Skin may be tight and more red than usual.
  • Skin may feel tacky and have a yellow to orange tinge. This is temporary and will fade in a few hours.
  • Wait until bedtime before washing the face.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise on the day of the procedure.

What to expect 24 hours after the peel and until peeling is complete:

  • Skin may be tight up until it starts to peel.
  • Peeling will generally start between 48-72 hours after the procedure and can last 2 to 5 days.
  • DO NOT PICK OR PULL THE SKIN. Allow your skin to peel at its own pace. (Premature peeling of the skin will result in dry, cracked, raw skin that may develop into post-inflammatory
    hyperpigmentation.)

When will I see results?

  • You will see noticeable results after one peel. For maximum results, we recommend Vitalize Peel be applied every 4-6 weeks until the desired results are achieved. Significant results will be seen after 3 to 6 peels, depending on the individual results.
  • You should wait six to eight hours post-treatment before washing your face in order to allow for the full benefit.

Typical Appointment Length:

20 minutes

When will I see results?

• Time between peels: 21 days
• Usually, 3 treatments are recommended 2-3 weeks apart and then maintenance treatments are recommended for optimal long term results, every 1-3 months.
• The Jessner solution is a leave-in solution that is self-neutralizing and takes several days to complete the peeling process. This kind of peel has to be left undisturbed (without application of water or oil) in the skin for a minimum of 6-8 hours post-treatment to allow for the full benefit

What areas are treated?

• Face
• Neck

What can I expect during a chemical peel application?

  • Each peel procedure takes around 20 minutes, depending on the type of peel and number of layers applied. Tolerance to the procedure varies from patient to patient. Tingling or burning sensations are normal and expected reactions, and usually subside in a few minutes.

How do I care for my skin post-procedure?

Patients should adhere to the following regimen for optimal post-peel skin care:

  • Cleanse: Use a gentle, soap-free cleanser. Do not scrub and/or use a washcloth.
  • Moisturize: While skin is peeling, you should apply sensitive skin moisturizer as often as needed to relieve any dryness.
  • Sun Protection: Apply Broad Spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen in the morning and throughout the day. Avoid direct sunlight for at least one week because the new skin is more susceptible to sunburn.

Can I use medicated creams on my skin post-procedure?

The regular use of Retin-A, alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) products or bleaching creams can be resumed after the peeling process is completed.

How long will it take for my skin to peel?
