Rebekah Fiers, MD

Family Medicine, Sports Medicine

“I am committed to caring for my patients with the thoughtful and thorough experience I would expect for my own family members. I am passionate about patient-centered care and educating my patients on their health. I believe exercise is medicine. I aim to help my patients stay active and return to activity safely after an injury.”

What brought you to the area?

My experiences have ranged from rural training in medical school to urban underserved in residency in North Minneapolis to the big city of Los Angeles for a year. One thing that has been consistent is the importance of community for me. Through my rural training and growing up in Hastings, MN, I found that I am drawn back to a small community like Monticello. The privilege of being a physician in a small town allows me to build a unique physician-patient relationship through the clinic taking care of whole families who also happen to be my neighbors. You might see me on the sideline of the local high school football teams on Friday nights!

Do you have any special areas of interest in medicine?

Sports and Exercise medicine, adult and pediatric injury management, musculoskeletal concerns in pregnancy, women’s health, preventative medicine, well child visits, annual physicals, chronic disease management, asthma, mental health care, substance use disorder, LGBTQ+ friendly care.

What would you like your patients to know about your approach to patient care?

Taking into account who you are as a whole, I aim to cater your workup and management utilizing shared decision making with you and your loved ones.

What can patients expect when they meet/see you in the exam room?

You can expect a warm, welcoming, patient-centered experience. You should feel heard and open to communicate your concerns to me and expect I will do my best to care for you.

What are the most common questions you receive from patients?

If you are a sports medicine doctor, do you only see orthopedic concerns? No! I am also trained in Family Medicine and I very much enjoy preventative care, women’s health, medical management, etc. along with musculoskeletal concerns.

What is Primary Care Sports Medicine?

Non-operative orthopedic care which includes fracture management, ligament or joint injuries, arthritis management and more.
Management of certain conditions can include ultrasound guided injections like corticosteroid (“cortisone” or “steroid”), platelet rich plasma (PRP), and hyaluronic acid (“viscosupplementation” or “gel injection”).

Why did you do a fellowship in Primary Care Sports and Exercise Medicine?

I have always been an active person with an active family. I found I wanted to learn more about non-operative sports medicine care to better care for athletes of all ages. I sought out extra training in sports medicine to broaden my skill set to help my patients stay active whether they are playing their first sport or wanting to continue being active throughout their lives.
