About our name
Stellis comes from the Latin word for stars, a reflection of our role watching over the communities we serve. And for more than 75 years, that’s exactly what we’ve been doing across Wright County and beyond.
What started as a small local clinic has grown into a trusted, independent medical group rooted in one simple idea: Neighbors Caring for Neighbors. We’ve built a tradition of treating every patient like family, delivering personalized care that grows with you, your children, and generations to come.
With locations in Buffalo and Monticello, our team of more than 60 providers delivers high-quality primary and specialty care designed around you. From preventive visits to urgent care, we make it easier to get the care you need, when you need it.

Celebrating 75 Years in 2026
Our roots in Buffalo date back more than a century, beginning with Dr. John Catlin, who opened a small hospital above a downtown drugstore in 1914. His legacy of local, patient-centered care helped shape what Stellis Health is today.

Our roots in Buffalo date back more than a century, beginning with Dr. John Catlin, who opened a small hospital above a downtown drugstore in 1914. His legacy of local, patient-centered care helped shape what Stellis Health is today.
Key milestones include:
- 1951 – Buffalo Clinic established in downtown Buffalo by Dr. R.M. Sandeen
- 1979 – New Buffalo Clinic built on Highway 25, where it stands today
- 1981 – New Monticello Clinic built on Hart Blvd, where it stands today
- 1995 – Buffalo and Monticello Clinics merge to form one medical group
- 2003 – Buffalo location expanded with skyway to hospital; Medical Skin Care Center opening
- 2016 – Rebranding under one name: Stellis Health

John Catlin, MD, retired and R.M. Sandeen, MD, replaced him and, together with Theodore Catlin, MD, (John Catlin’s son) they converted the private hospital to the first Buffalo Clinic with a laboratory, X-ray, library, physical therapy and storage. (above the current Forget Me Not Cafe)

Dr. Sandeen and Dr. Theodore Catlin built a new location on 210 1st Street
South in Buffalo (former location of Holmquist’s County Market) due to
need of more space and another doctor.
William Hart, MD, and Donald Maus, MD, co-owned the original Monticello Clinic located downtown on Broadway Street.
