Midwifery

Midwifery

The word “midwife” literally means “with woman.”

Certified Nurse Midwives are focused on wellness and spend much time educating patients about ways to stay healthy. Midwives are commonly thought of as providing pregnancy care (prenatal, labor, birth, and postpartum), but they also provide wellness and preventative care. They have a solid nursing and medical foundation and care for women from pre-childbearing years to after menopause. Midwives provide wellness screenings, physical exams, address gynecological concerns, and provide contraception.

Many women choose midwives for pregnancy care because they are looking for a more natural childbirth experience and want a provider who will support options like upright positions and alternative comfort measures while in labor. Midwives view labor as a normal part of life and usually avoid intervention unless deemed necessary, always consulting with obstetricians if complications arise.

Prenatal education classes are part of your prenatal care at Stellis Health. We provide two classes designed to help prepare and educate you throughout pregnancy. Class one should be taken early in your pregnancy and the second class should be completed early in your third trimester.

Classes are offered bi-monthly at all three clinic sites at various times throughout the day. Feel free to schedule at whichever site best fits your schedule, regardless of the typical clinic site where you have your appointments. If you have any questions about these classes, please talk to your provider.
